Introduction
Margaret McCoy, affectionately nicknamed Garet and pronounced “Garrett,” is a 2009 birth year Indy Eleven ECNL defender. Attending Carmel High School, she is a 4.0 GPA student who will graduate in May 2028. After graduation, Garet plans to study business or pursue a degree in the medical field. She has been on the Indy Eleven ECNL team since U13.
McCoy has specialized in defending since 2017 and is comfortable in right and left centerback or outside back positions. She is strong on the ball and technically skilled with a strong pass connection rate, yet also able to loft the ball long. As a spinal player, McCoy orchestrates tempo while remaining calm, cool and collected. Garet also enjoys playing high school soccer for the Carmel Greyhounds.
Preparation
McCoy’s work ethic is unmatched, training relentlessly. When she isn’t training with her team, she trains at Sogility, a technology-driven soccer facility in Westfield, Indiana, and also at Five Star Training Center, an Indianapolis destination for elite soccer training. Garet enjoys weight lifting in her high school physical conditioning class and follows a strict gluten-free diet, nourishing her body after her grueling workouts.
Since 2020 Garet’s family has hosted Indy Eleven Academy soccer players from outside of the Indianapolis-area. Notable host athletes include Mitar Mitrovic (MF)- Marquette University ['21-’25 & University of Michigan [present]], Alex Svetnoff (GK)-University of Louisville ['22-present], Matthew Senanou (DF)-UNC ['21-'22] and Xavier University ['22-present], and Hayden Vostal (GK)-DePaul University ['24-present]. Living with an extra ‘older brother’ gave Garet an inside view of what it takes to transition from high school academy player to NCAA collegiate athlete. Garet’s brother, Maverick McCoy, is a 2007 MLS Next player for Indy Eleven Pro Academy, an Indy Eleven USL-Championship Academy player and a 2026-commit to the University of Notre Dame.
Personality
Garet is a witty and a fun-loving girl! People genuinely like and like to be around Garet. She is a compassionate servant to those she loves, but she is also a no-bull kinda girl who let’s you know exactly how she feels.
When she is not hanging around a soccer field, she enjoys hanging out with her teammates or neighborhood friends, biking, going to the pool and the mall. She also enjoys fishing, waterskiing and boating with her family.
Garet works hard off of the pitch too with a weekly mowing service for a neighbor and she baby- & pet- sits when she isn’t traveling for soccer.

Garet McCoy was selected to the Brownsburg High School 2024 Summer Invitational All-Tournament Team as a Freshman.
Garet has been playing soccer since she was three years old. This is a look back at some of her younger days on soccer teams that included USAi, Carmel Dad’s Club rec soccer, Carmel FC travel soccer, and Indiana Fire Academy ECNL (now Indy Eleven Pro Academy ECNL).
